Professional Coder II, Provider Based Coding

40 hours weekly, day shift

JOB SUMMARY: Under basic guidance, abstracts and codes medical facility based, inpatient healthcare facility, outpatient and ambulatory doctor (and mid-level supplier) services and unique treatments (e.g., Emergency Room, Ambulatory Surgery, Day Hospital, Sticht Center, Forsyth Hospital). Utilizes basic ICD medical diagnosis and CPT expert coding standards, Medicare, Medicaid and other 3rd party regulations/requirements, along with internal coding standards, in order to offer information for billing and repayment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED comparable with 2 years of medical coding experience in a comparable environment, or eligibility for internal promo based upon accomplishing and keeping Coder level II efficiency requirements by department for 6 successive months.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: National coding accreditation (CPC or CCS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Accountable for prompt and precise coding of health center based expert services (outpatient health center or inpatient health center; single services or total inpatient stays) by checking out and/or examining medical record paperwork to appoint and series medical diagnoses and treatment codes according to coding standards, and participate in the electronic system:

a. Appropriate medical diagnoses codes, expert service codes and modifiers and/or center service/ charge codes.

2. Preserves an existing understanding of ICD medical diagnosis codes, CPT doctor service codes, internal codes (for unlisted or uncommon CPT codes), and governmental (Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare), industrial and handled care guidelines by checking out appropriate expert literature and by going to workshops and lectures.

3. Accumulates enough continuing education hours to keep nationwide coding accreditation.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
