Coding Auditor/Trainer

Position Summary:

Assists the Coding Manager in development of the coding audit program for the facility inpatient and/or outpatient auditing processes. Responsibilities include education and training of coding staff and/other departments on the facility coding audit functions and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Along with the Coding Manager, identifies trends and areas in need of auditing and training
  • Assists in the development of policy and procedure development for the facility coding process
  • Promotes the role of the Facility Coding Department in a positive manner and will identify new initiatives for the program growth
  • Utilizes a positive and proactive approach when working with staff to promote engagement and greater understanding of the Facility Coding standards and requirements to regulatory standards
  • Assist coding staff with complex queries
  • Reviews documentation with the staff for agreed changes in order to obtain accurate coding standards
  • Reviews audit results with staff and for development of educational materials
  • Ensures the maintenance of high quality coding under Correct Coding rules and regulatory standards
  • Works independently and part of a team
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
  • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 or more years’ experience in coding required
  • Coding certification; AAPC, RHIT, RHIA or CCS required
  • Associates degree in healthcare preferred
  • 2 years’ experience preparing and presenting training materials to individuals and staff groups of various size
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as effective human relation skills for building and maintaining a working relationship with all levels of staff, physicians, and other contacts

  • Must be able to maintain a sitting position
  • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
