Professional Coder I, PB Coding

40 hours weekly, day shift

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct guidance, accountable for prompt and precise coding of medical facility based expert services (outpatient or inpatient medical facility; single services or total inpatient stays) by checking out medical record documents from the paper and/or electronic records. Designates series (main, secondary, and so on) according to coding standards and participates in the electronic system to supply information for billing and repayment.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. One year of associated coding experience. Experience in coding of doctor expert services in a mentor environment and familiarity with Medicare Teaching Physician Rules chosen.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Certified Medical Coder (CPC-A, CPC, or CCS) or accreditation needed within one year of hire date.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Utilizes proper medical diagnoses codes, expert service codes and modifiers in the coding of health center services.

2. Maintains present understanding of ICD medical diagnosis codes, CPT doctor service codes, internal codes (for default services and for inadequate paperwork), and governmental (Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare), industrial and handled care policies by checking out appropriate expert literature and by going to workshops and lectures.

3. Accumulates adequate continuing education hours to preserve nationwide coding accreditation.

4. Functions collaboratively with staff member and WFUP Coding Compliance Analysts to address concerns and/or deal with problems connected to documents, coding and billing of expert services.
