STORYTIME: WHAT IS A PRO COST CODER? MEDICAL CODING

featured image

Addressing the question of what is a PRO COST medical coder and sharing my experience as a pro fee coder when I initially started out in medical coding.
To break it down simply, it is coding outpatient while a patient is staying inpatient in a health center. A provider needs to be paid for their cognitive work. As a professional charge coder, it is the job of the professional fee coder to make sure that all the details is completely recorded so that the provider can get all the credit they deserve for their evaluation and management levels, medical diagnoses and any procedures they carry out. Pro fee coders use the CPT or Current Procedural Terms book in addition to the ICD-10 book (or encoder software application for coding).
Pro charge coders likewise follow the outpatient identifies coding rules in that we only code for things that are conclusive and if there is not a conclusive diagnosis, sign codes are picked up instead.
It is an interesting “setting” to code for and certainly a feather in your cap once mastered.:-RRB-
