TASK SUMMARY The Pharmacy Professional 1, under the supervision and instructions of a Pharmacist, offers drug store services, handles inventory, and provides pharmaceutical care as appointed and in accordance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) regulations. VITAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE Carries out limited pharmacy services and duties related to the equipping, preparation, labeling, giving and shipment of medications. Assists patients and medical personnel with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor. Responses incoming telephone call and responds to the requirements of the caller and/or directs them to the appropriate individual for service. Communicates immediately with all suitable staff member when stock levels are low and helps with drug buying and stock control in an appropriate manner (ex. purchasing and receiving of medications and materials). Performs designated jobs regarding pharmacy quality assurance, management of pharmacy records, stock control and preparation of order for drugs. Enters medication orders from doctors’ order sheets/prescriptions and fills according to label, guaranteeing that the appropriate product is given which the dose kind and charge amount are in accordance with formulary; enters appropriate billing information and is responsible for medication charges and credits. Fixes disparities, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing machine (ADM) Cleans and helps keep equipment and work area; decontaminates glassware according to established treatments. SECRET SUCCESS ASPECTS Basic understanding of Pharmacy Care techniques, terminology, pharmaceutical estimations, terms, drug use and aseptic methods, standards, and equipment. Knowledge of procedures and requirements for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications. Should have the ability to read, write and follow instructions and flow chart procedures. Ability to sort, check, count, and validate numbers. Capability to follow established security, infection control, ecological and isolation practices and treatments at all times. Social abilities needed to communicate successfully with patients and staff. General computer abilities, including but not restricted to: using needed software applications, information entry, info security, electronic medical paperwork, hand held scanning and email.
