Job Description

Work Remote from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Indiana *

This remote position has versatile beginning times.

The Coder 1, RHIT – MEDICAL RECORDS shows the objective, vision, and worths of NM, abides by the company’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and adhere to all appropriate policies, treatments, standards, and all other regulative and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Understands coding conventions/instructions, Official Guidelines for Coding, and Reporting and Coding Clinics.
  • Has a mutual understanding of illness procedure, anatomy/physiology, pharmacology and medical terms.
  • Understands APR and MS-DRG compensation approach for severe care coding.
  • For inpatient rehab coding, should have understanding and technical know-how of ICD-10- CM medical diagnosis coding.
  • Must have a combined understanding of the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, and standards particular to Inpatient Rehab Facilities.
  • Must comprehend IRF-PAI (Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument) standards as it associates with coding.
  • Must have a working understanding of the IGC (Impairment Group Codes) and RIC (Rehabilitation Impairment Categories) as it associates with the main medical diagnosis choice and claim compensation.
  • Performs an evaluation of medical record documents within CAC (computer system helped coding) or Epic to recognize the proper principal/primary medical diagnosis, CC/MCC/tier, (co-morbidity/complication, significant co-morbidity/complication, tier 1, 2, 3) as these medical diagnoses effect repayment. Recognize other secondary medical diagnoses and all suitable treatments.
  • Navigates Epics Doc Review, Hospital Chart or Chart Review beyond CAC when needed.
  • Utilizes 3Ms encoder resources to make sure ideal coding precision.
  • Optimizes CAC to make sure coding effectiveness.
  • Collaborates periodically with Clinical Documentation Specialists when there is a medical diagnosis or DRGmismatch or question chance to make sure clearness and precision of medical record paperwork.
  • Articulates reasoning for coding choices when required, i.e. information quality audit.
  • Maintains medical diagnosis, treatment, DRG and general precision within department requirement of 95% or much better.
  • Maintains efficiency requirement within department requirement of 90% or much better

Qualifications

Required:

  • 1 year of inpatient coding experience in a severe health care or inpatient rehab setting or progressive coding experience internally. Should have official training in PCS coding.
  • RHIA, RHIT or CCS credential.
  • AHIMA subscription

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree in associated field.
  • 2 years of inpatient coding experience in a severe health care setting that consists of a mentor health center
