PRIMARY PURPOSEConducts audits of medical record coding to make sure compliance with established standards, supplies results of audits, and helps with educational activities related to findings to promote adherence to state/federal laws and regulatory requirements. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONSEducation:- Should be a graduate of a Health Information Management program or should have successfully completed an approved Coding instructional program.Experience:- Need to be a Registered Health Info Administrator (RHIA) plus four years of review/coding experience;- OR, need to be a Registered Health Details Professional (RHIT) plus 6 years of review/coding experience;- OR, must be a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-( CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Expert Coder-Hospital-( CPC-H) with 8 years of review coding experience.Equivalent Education and/or Experience-May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to alternative to the experience requirements.Certification/ Registration/Licensure:- Must be a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Service Technician (RHIT), or Qualified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Licensed Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P), or Qualified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Expert Coder-Hospital (CPC-H). Needed Tests for Positioning:- Candidates since January 31, 2018 must pass with a minimum rating of 85% or above the pre-employment coding test prior to hire.Skills or Unique Capabilities:- Must have the ability to show time management, organizational, oral and written communication skills.-Must excel and demonstrate and advanced understanding in ICD-9-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding and abstracting and have an innovative medical knowledge of medical terms, illness process and pharmacology.-Must have the ability to show understanding of repayment (Medicare and Medicaid) concepts and approaches (MS-DRG and APC).- Should have a working knowledge of the compliance standards associated with coding and billing.-Must have strong skills in diplomacy, professionalism and trustworthiness.-Must be able to demonstrate outstanding computer system skills, consisting of word processing, spreadsheet and database management software efficiency.
