The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Finance and Accounting is seeking an Earnings Integrity Coding Analyst. The new role will carry out audits of medical records to guarantee appropriateness and accurate coding and charge assignments in accordance with Center of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) standards, CPT guidelines, and UIHC policies and treatments.

Responsibilities:

  • Determines charging, coding, or scientific paperwork concerns and works with supplementary departments to resolve issues and alert suitable leadership.
  • Performs assigned audits by investigating documentation, analyzing details, and makes suggestions to enhance workflow.
  • Leads audit evaluations according to Income Integrity Department processes. Meets department management to examine findings, documents requirements, and suggestions for improvement.
  • Responds to desk audit findings with next action suggestions and improvements.
  • Perform ancillary service quality control evaluations and department audits and consults with department leaders and personnel to notify on paperwork findings to increase accuracy and enhance charge capture.
  • Provides feedback to departments regarding missing out on, incomplete, unspecific, uncertain or conflicting documentation.
  • Provides coding, documentation, and compliance guidance as requested.
  • Assists and directly provides training and orientation in group settings along with individually.
  • Strategies and presents to nursing, physician, and personnel regarding procedures, updates, and examines relating to audit findings and regulative compliance.
  • Collaborates with Income Integrity Experts to complete various queries by departments to ensure precise and timely responses.
  • Teams Up with Income Stability group on opportunities to enhance and carry out front-end process change to support denial prevention.
  • Works carefully with Denials/Appeals and Coding as needed to bridge and drive outcomes through the profits cycle.
  • Routinely reviews details to identify enhancements to the quality assurance method and documents requirements. Maintains in-depth knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing practices, guidelines, laws, and policies to ensure precise Medicare and Medicaid billing.
  • Stays current with policy changes and related functional processes.
  • An important part in the development of policies and treatments as they associate with enhancing processes, reinforcing controls, enhancing revenue, and improving cash flow.
  • Actively takes part in team development, accomplishing dashboards, and in accomplishing department goals and objectives.
  • Carries out other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or CPC coding certification required.
  • 3 years of related experience
  • Extensive knowledge of federal guidelines and policies relating to documentation, coding, and billing
  • Affordable knowledge of intricate financial and statistical analysis and presentation.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Shown proficiency in computer system software applications. Need to have experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Epic’s Patient Accounting System.
  • Previous coding audit experience

Desired Credentials:

  • Knowledge of and experience in case management and usage management.
  • Understanding of UIHC policies and treatments
  • Experience with Microsoft Gain Access To and/ or SQL databases.
