Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 4 years expert or medical facility (depending upon position) experience evaluating, abstracting, coding in ICD 10 CM or ICD 10 PCS, or CPT
  • Certification in among the following (as suggested by the position description) Coding accreditation from AAPC or AHIMA:
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
  • Active AHIMA subscription might be needed for some positions. Licensed Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders;-LRB-
  • OR comparable accreditation.
  • Must have the ability to carry out the important functions of the position with or without lodging

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accredited Coding Program, Associates or Bachelor Degree; Specialized Coding Credential
  • Knowledge of OPPS standards and both CPT Inpatient and Outpatient coding standards.
  • CCI edits and familiarity with medical requirement standards, NCD and LCD requirements.
  • Experience utilizing an EMR.
  • Some college course work or education in classes associated with anatomy/physiology, medical terms, CPT and ICD-10- CM coding.
  • Knowledge of CPT Outpatient coding standards. CCI edits and familiarity with medical need standards.
  • Experience utilizing EPIC, 3M encoder.
  • Advanced understanding of CPT, ICD-10- CM, HCPCS, Federal Register, Federal and State insurance coverage billing laws and requireds.
  • Proficiency with data processing and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent spoken and written interaction abilities with the capability to efficiently interact with people at all levels, doctors, nurses, administrative management, and so on
  • Ability to work as a group gamer.
  • Member of the American Academy of Professional Coders and Certified Professional Coder or AHIMA accreditation needed upon hire.
  • Must have the ability to pass internal coding test to certify as a Level 3.
