We presently have an opportunity for a Billing & Coding Specialist to join our central team at our workplace in Portland! Our Billing & Coding Specialists review declares data to ensure the appointed procedural and diagnosis codes fulfill required legal and insurance rules. This is a 40 hr/week position (Monday-Friday).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Runs daily schedules to cross-reference that charges are participated in the EMR.
  • Audits each charge to make sure billing codes are accurate prior to claims submission.
  • Runs weekly reports to record missing charges. Looks into missing charges and goes into the change when suitable.
  • Runs monthly reports to track billing for pregnancy services. Confirms delivery, antepartum and postpartum care are billed precisely and makes corrections when needed.
  • Confirms healthcare facility services within the hospital medical records system.
  • Enters ancillary services such as main lab, DEXA, mammograms and ultrasound.
  • Informs and offers feedback to clinicians if there are patterns of coding errors.
  • Serves as an intermediary between business office, clinicians and other personnel in communicating info regarding clients’ services, insurance guidelines and billing.
  • Offers feedback to clinicians if there are trends of coding errors
  • Expenses all services in a prompt manner.
  • Keeps up to date with coding changes, consisting of however not restricted to CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 and insurance modifications.

CERTIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of medical office experience required.
  • 2 years of experience in medical billing preferred.
  • Licensed Expert Coder (CPC) chosen.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding, consisting of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS required.
  • Shown problem-solving abilities in order to fix complex billing concerns needed.
  • Understanding of collection law and practices chosen.
  • Knowledge of local and significant national medical insurance practices chosen.
  • Understanding of correct company writing requirements for letters and memos consisting of the capability to write correspondence with appropriate punctuation, grammar, spelling, etc.
  • Proven efficient verbal, listening and written interactions skills.
  • Educated in Microsoft Workplace Products (Word, Outlook), the web and navigating insurance sites.
