Simon Eye, Vision Quest, and Center for Advanced Eye Care are partner practices with a combined 25 Optometrists, 6 Ophthalmologists, and 150 staff serving the state of Delaware and West Chester and Bucks County, PA. We are aligned to ensure our communities can access patient-centered, medically oriented full service eyecare delivered in convenient locations with friendly, knowledgeable doctors and staff.

As the Lead Medical Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for the insurance billing and collections functions for multiple Simon Eye optometry locations and will help direct the work of 3-4 other billing specialists in the office. Your success in this position will be driven by your ability to work with the team to complete billing, denial and/or accounts receivable follow-up with payers while achieving the expected quality requirements.

What You’ll Do:

  • Supervise the billing work to ensure it is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Process and submit accurate and timely claims to payers, analyze and research unpaid claims, and assist in the resolution of denials, partial payments, and payment variances.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate resolution of outstanding invoices either through cash collections or adjustments.
  • Proactively identify aging patient balances and leverage combination of payment technology (text to pay, e-statements), paper statements and patient follow up activities. Simon Eye takes a “friendly” approach to collections with our patients.
  • Answer patient inquiries regarding account status professionally, accurately, and timely; Maintain HIPAA confidentiality of patients.
  • Complete other duties/projects as assigned to help support the overall billing team.

What You’ll Need:

  • 5+ years of medical billing experience or equivalent accounting experience; Prior ophthalmic or optometric medical billing ideal.
  • 3+ years of successfully leading the work of a small team
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of medical billing and ICD-9/10
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally to patients over the phone.
  • Ability to effectively interpret and post various payer EOB payments.
  • Enthusiasm and patient relationship focused – must be able to work with patients on the phone to resolve payment issues in a mutually satisfactory manner.
  • Proven dependability and reliability.
  • Organization in how you go about your work, able to multi-task when needed.
  • Discretion and professionalism – which is expected due to the exposure to sensitive operational and financial information
  • Self-motivation and flexibility to handle tasks as they arise in addition to those already scheduled
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, time management, and adaptable to a changing environment.
  • Computer literacy and strong keyboarding skills
