Medical coders are in high demand. In fact, jobs in this field are projected to grow 15 % through 2024, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics (BLS). That’s more than twice the average for all occupations.

Why Medical Coding is important?
After a medical provider examines or treats a patient, we have to pay the bill. Usually the payment happen in two ways. One, self pay, that means, pay the bill by case. Two, insurance payment, that means, Pay the bill through insurance. Here the insurance company needs to understand what was done in order to process the bill. So the medical coder is helping for the insurance payment, where the insurance companies to track the money they reimburse to physicians and practices, and also helps to prevent fraudulent medical claims or errors in payment.

what is the role of medical coder?
Medical coders help to review and process the medical claims, to help the physician practices and hospitals to get reimbursed from the insurance companies for the services and facilities provided to the patients.
For example, once the physician done the treatment, the physician will document this details in hand written or transcribed format. which is called as medical record. Here the medical coder is the professional who responsible for allocating those specific medical codes by using coding manual like CPT, ICD and HCPCS for each claim.

What is Medical Coding?.
Medical coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis, procedures and medical services into universal medical alphanumeric codes by using coding manual such as CPT, hcpcs, and ICD 10. Here the coder will review, the diagnoses and procedure from medical record documentation, such as transcription of physician’s notes, laboratory, radiologic results, then they will assign the appropriate code by using coding manuals.
