The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has an opportunity within the Business and Financial Services Division (BFSD).

The Department of Public Health and Human Services seeks to improve and protect the health, well-being, and self-reliance of all Montanans. The mission of the Business & Financial Services Division is to provide professional services in operational areas critical to the efficient and effective management of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.

This position prepares claims for Medicare and Medicaid services provided at the department facilities, and performs accounts receivable functions for amounts collectable from Medicare, private insurance, and Medicaid. Responsibilities include preparing and maintaining patient accounts and reconciling accounts with ledgers utilizing extensive knowledge of complex medical billings requirements and federal and state statutes and laws.

Qualifications

What You Can Offer Us

  • Working knowledge of medical billing terminology and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid benefits and eligibility.
  • Working knowledge of accounting methods and account receivable theory and practices.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply procedural rules regarding claims and statements.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, including 10-key calculator, spreadsheets, word processing, database, E-mail, Internet, and other computer programs.
  • Ability to learn quickly and independently.
  • Meet minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years work experience in accounting, billing, and collecting in a medical field.
  • Experience with medical terminology and coding.
  • Experience with Medicaid and Medicare billing required.
  • Other medical licenses/certifications may be considered as additional experience.
  • Other combinations of directly related education/experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
