Key standard classes
A neoplasm is a type of abnormal and excessive development, called neoplasia, of tissue. The growth of a neoplasm is uncoordinated with that of the normal surrounding tissue, and continues growing abnormally, even if the initial trigger is gotten rid of. This irregular development typically forms a mass, when it may be called a tumor.
ICD-10 classifies neoplasms into 4 primary groups: benign neoplasms, in situ neoplasms, deadly neoplasms, and neoplasms of unsure or unidentified behavior. Deadly neoplasms are likewise merely called cancers and are the focus of oncology.
