Laureen: Alright, breathing dependency.

Alicia: And this is a very fast and easy one.

Q: Could you explain how to code for breathing dependence?

Q: I have a coding concern for work, I was thinking about if you could describe how to code for breathing dependence?

V461 – Should this be used only for somebody who is permanently on respiratory ventilator?

A: Yes, the response is yes.

Q: V462 – Could this be utilized for someone with a condition such as sleep apnea?

A: No, the V462 is for someone who is O2 reliant.

Down here, most people think that if a person is on a respirator or a ventilator that they’re bed-bound and possibly in ICU. You think, you see that photo of a person on device and stuff, which holds true, however in actuality a great deal of people are breathing reliant and it typically is involving quadriplegia injuries to the spinal cord. Like this photo, this person is really ventilator dependent or respirator dependent, but he remains in a wheelchair walking around. There was also a picture of a lady that was going to high school however I could not get it to load.
