Education

  • Certificate program in coding, associate degree in HIM, or comparable health care coding experience.

Experience

  • A minimum of one year of coding experience.

License/Certification/Registration

  • Inpatient Coding: Registered Health Info Specialist (RHIT), Licensed Coding Professional (CCS)
  • Outpatient or Expert Charge Coding: Registered Health Info Specialist (RHIT), Qualified Coding Expert (CCS), Licensed Expert Coder (CPC), Qualified Coding Expert (CCS-P), Licensed Expert Coder – Health Center (CPC-H)
  • If AAPC specialized accreditation, coding expert needs to be licensed in the specialized they support.

Preferred

Education

  • Partner or bachelors degree in HIM.

Experience

  • 2 years of coding experience.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in Behavioral Health

License/Certification/Registration

  • Registered Health Info Administrator (RHIA 4 year degree) or Registered Health Details Service Technician (RHIT 2 year degree) plus extra coding credential, AAPC or other specialized coding accreditation.
