The Outpatient Coder II shows the objective, vision, and worths of NM, complies with the company’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and abide by all pertinent policies, treatments, standards and all other regulative and accreditation requirements.
The Outpatient Coder II is the coding and compensation professional with ICD-10- CM medical diagnosis coding, HCPCS and CPT codes and modifiers. The focus is on complex outpatient encounters that consist of Observation stays, Same Day Surgery, Surgery Center, and Outpatient in a bed. This position must have more thorough understanding of illness procedure, A&P and pharmacology as it connects to the whole body system for precise coding and compensation, along with broadened understanding with HCPCS, Level I, II Chargemaster and CPT soft codes with authorized center modifiers to deal with NCCI Edits. The Coder II must likewise have the understanding and competence of the Coder Associate and Coder I.
Responsibilities:
- Utilizes technical coding competence to appoint suitable ICD-10- CM and CPT-4 codes to outpatient check out types. Evaluations the medical record completely, using all readily available documents to code suitable medical diagnoses and treatments
- Interprets health record documents utilizing understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical illness procedure, pharmacology, and medical terms to report suitable medical diagnoses and/or treatments.
- Sends suitable doctor questions when needed for documents information. Follows Coding Clinic for HCPCs, CPT Assistant, and analyzes coding conventions and training notes to choose suitable medical diagnoses and treatments with a minimum of 95% precision
- Broad focus of anatomy on whole body system
- Provides technical proficiency to evaluate system associated modifications and takes part in screening of software application adjustments. Determines chances to improve CAC (computer system helped coding), i.e. alerting IT intermediary of files submitting to Default folder, inaccurate system appointed codes, and so on
- Resolves NCCI Edits with authorized medical facility modifiers
- Utilizes 3M Encoder resources to guarantee optimum coding precision
- Articulates reasoning for coding choices when required, ie. Triggered by outcomes of information quality audit
- Meets developed minimum coding performance (90%) and quality requirements (95%) for each outpatient encounter type
Qualifications
Required:
- Credentialed by the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association). CE requirement to stay credentialed is 20-30 CE’s every 2 years
- 3-4 years of coding experience in an intense health care setting
- RHIT, RHIA or CCS credentialed
- Ability to deal with very little guidance
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in associated field
- 4 years of coding experience in a severe health care setting
