Description

The Outpatient Coder I reflects the mission, vision, and worths of NM, follows the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, treatments, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

An Outpatient Coder I is a coding and reimbursement professional in ICD-10- CM medical diagnosis coding with a focus on outpatient encounters for endoscopy laboratory, interventional radiology, heart catheterization laboratory, and outpatient clinic types.

Responsibilities:

  • Follows ICD-10- CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, Coding Clinics, interprets ICD-10- CM coding conventions and training notes to pick suitable medical diagnoses. Coding diagnosis from legitimate paper/electronic orders and company reports.
  • Should have proficiency with HCPC Level I, II, CPT codes and nationwide basic modifiers.
  • Uses technical coding knowledge to appoint suitable ICD-10- CM and/or CPT-4 codes to outpatient go to types when client is seen by a company.
  • Reviews the medical record completely, utilizing all available documents to code appropriate medical diagnoses and treatments
  • Crucial thinking shown by properly determining problems and following procedures when not able to complete coding on an account. (ADT modifies, doctor inquiry for clarification of documentation, and missing out on documents)
  • Translates health record paperwork using understanding of anatomy, physiology, clinical illness procedure, pharmacology, and medical terminology to report appropriate diagnoses and/or treatments.
  • Follows Coding Center for HCPCs, CPT Assistant, and analyzes coding conventions and instructional notes to pick proper diagnoses and treatments with a minimum of 95% precision
  • Focus of anatomy on GI, cardiac catheterization laboratory, interventional radiology, outpatient diagnostics and treatments, physician order/requisition documents
  • Solves specific Chargemaster NCCI or other outpatient edit claim failures as assigned
  • Utilizes 3M Encoder resources to guarantee optimal coding precision
  • Articulates reasoning for coding selections when necessary, i.e. prompted by results of information quality audit
  • Meets developed minimum coding productivity (90%) and quality standards (95%) for each outpatient encounter type

Certifications

Required:

  • Credentialed by the AHIMA (American Health Info Management Association) or AAPC (American Academy of Expert Coders)
  • CE requirement to stay credentialed is 20-30 CE’s every two years
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS or COC credentialed
  • 2 years of related work experience in a Severe care setting

Preferred:

  • 3 years of undergraduate education or equivalent
