Coding Expert

Task Description: The function of this position is to carry out all expert coding obligations for an assigned group of centers and/or service providers.

Scope

Specified by appointed group of centers and/or service providers.

Task Basics

1. Uses all coding and billing guidelines, policies, procedures and treatments for inpatient and outpatient services using CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10- CM medical diagnosis codes, consisting of CPT modifiers with adherence to NCCI edits.

2. Abstracts, translates and evaluates medical record paperwork in order to appoint and choose precise CPT, HCPCS and ICD-10- CM medical diagnosis codes and associated modifiers.

3. Updates understanding and stays existing expertly by examining yearly coding modifications/ updates, Medical Group coding policies, payer policies/ publications, and participating in Intermountain coder training, as needed.

4. Maintains nationwide coding accreditation.

5. User interfaces with doctors, center supervisors and other medical personnel in relation to coding associated concerns (e.g. paperwork enhancements)

6. Interacts with other departments and personnel, and works efficiently in accomplishing appointed jobs and objectives

7. Satisfies developed coding and abstracting efficiency and quality requirements

Minimum Certifications

National Specialist Coding Accreditation (CPC or CCS-P) from a certified program

3 years of coding experience

Preferred Certifications

Specialized particular coding experience

Coding experience in an ambulatory or center practice setting

– and –

Understands and uses medical terms, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and illness procedures connected to particular doctor practices.

– and –

Understanding of sequencing medical diagnoses and treatments codes laid out in the ICD-10- CM Authorities Coding Standards, AMA CPT- guidelines, CPT Assistant, and CMS standards.

Experience in basic computer system abilities and understanding

– and –

Experience in supplying efficient composed and spoken interactions
