We are seeking a determined Medical Coding Auditor to join our team. We will consider 100% remote, out of state candidates.
The Auditor will provide official and casual coding and regulatory education to all CU Medicine coding/charge capture personnel, billing staff, all attending physicians, locals and APP service providers included with the billing for professional services as directed by Federal and State requirements as well as the AMA. The individual in this position will also carry out internal audits to ensure anyone involved in the billing for professional services is in accordance with Federal and State guidelines and payor policies and procedures.
Obligations of the Auditor include however are not limited to:
- Perform comprehensive coder audits regularly as specified by compliance requirements, determine if extra education is needed and notify Training and Development of ongoing education requirements.
- Work carefully with the Education Program Manager to create, modify and upgrade all online/web/PowerPoint education modules and products as it connects to the coding and regulatory guidelines under the direction of Audit, Compliance & Education leadership.
- Conduct internal audits of medical documents supporting claims billed to third parties to make sure billing is performed in accordance with the appropriate third party regulations and/or standards.
- Evaluate the suitability of the services and treatments billed based upon the supporting paperwork.
- Examine the appropriateness of diagnoses billed for all services in accordance with coding standards.
- Evaluate propriety of the level of service billed for evaluation and management services based upon the supporting documentation.
- Examine the suitability of the EHR performance being utilized, completing second level evaluations on high complexity services.
- Conduct academic documentation and coding training for clinicians, and locals to support compliance with 3rd party paperwork and billing requirements.
- Prepare formalized reports from audit software of audit results and present the outcomes to ACE management, medical chairs, and doctors.
- Respond separately to questions from doctors and School of Medicine (SOM) department administrative staff relating to billing, coding and documentation.
- Develop curricula for suppliers based upon audit findings together with general education on coding and documentation guidelines and policies.
- Carry out follow-up reviews after initial training of physicians and figure out if additional education is required.
- Provide any extra training when determined by follow-up evaluation.
- Communicate regularly with internal departments to ensure all necessary details is gotten on a prompt basis.
- Communicate and issue resolve with Managers and Supervisors on particular coding concerns and/or training requests.
- Work on joint jobs with other internal audit personnel and internal CU Medication departments to deal with billing and documents concerns.
- Perform any and all other assigned responsibilities.

Requires a bachelor’s degree in health care administration (or related field) or equivalent/relevant work experience. The perfect prospect will have 3yrs of auditing experience. Must possess an active CCS-P or CPC or RHIA/RHIT accreditation in conjunction with auditing credentials (i.e. CPMA). Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terms and Anatomy & Physiology integrated with high level expertise in third-party payer reimbursement, coding, and paperwork requirements are necessary to success. Understanding of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines is needed. Experience in a teaching/academic medical environment is a plus. The ideal prospect will demonstrate exceptional interaction skills consisting of verbal, written and large audience discussions. The ability to train/teach adults is necessary to success. High level efficiency in using different computer system systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other database software abilities are required.
