The Committee on Energy and Commerce is the earliest standing legislative committee (developed 1795) in the U.S. House of Representatives and is vested with the broadest jurisdiction of any congressional licensing committee.

Today, the committee has duty for matters including telecoms, consumer defense, food and drug security, public health and research study, ecological quality, energy policy, and interstate and foreign commerce to name a few.

The committee is led by E&C Chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and E&C Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR).
