A quick discussion on concepts and suggestions for sequencing in medical coding, by an experienced medical coder. (DISCLAIMER These are just my views and are not the views of any medical coding Association.).
How do you choose which identifies To sequence 1st? Always take a look at the reason that the patient can be found in; why did they come in? And go from there. Take a look at what the provider is treating most pressing. What is out of control?
One thing I forgot to discuss from our injury circumstance was the Place of occurrence and activity codes. It likewise depends on your center so be sure to ask since some might have you put it with all of the injury codes and some might have you anchor those place of incident and activity codes at the very end.
Appendix E in the ICD-10- CM Book has the total list of principal/first noted Z codes! If any of those are the reason the client is coming in make certain to series 1st!
Thank you for enjoying!
